The people who lived here before us switched the lock to the outside of the door. It was obviously a safety strategy, so the child would not lock themselves in the bathroom. I really thought it was a smart idea, until it back fired on me.
It all started when I was using the restroom. ( TMI) I have to explain the reason why I was in the bathroom, and how my two year old locked me in. Anyways, he was playing in the bathroom with until he decided to shut the door. I did not think anything of it, until I tried to open the door and realized he locked the door from the outside. My child LOCKED me in the bathroom. He was free to roam and do anything he wanted to do in the house, which is not a good thing!! I started freaking out/crying/sweating. I got myself together and tried to get Quinn to unlock the door. Bless his heart, he was trying his little heart out to get that door unlocked. He could not do it. It really isn’t easy to do. He kept saying, “Mommy out, Mommy out!!!”
I broke down and called my mother who was about 25 minutes away. ( Thank goodness I had my phone.) She was taking care of my Grandparents. She was the only one who had a key to get in the house, so she booked it on 290 to get here as fast as she could. As we were waiting I was still trying to distract Quinn by holding his hand under the door, singing, and trying to get him to unlock the door. Every time he would leave my heart would race and I would call out his name to come back. ( I was a pathetic mother lying on the floor of the bathroom begging for her child to come back) One time he brought one of his tools. I think it was the electric saw and beat it on the door!! It was a good try!! Finally, He reached up to the knob and figured out how to unlock the door!! It was the LONGEST 10 minutes of my life. It is the absolute worst feeling when you are not able to reach. or get to your child. Obviously, if I thought he was in trouble or he was gone for awhile I would have kicked down the door.
If someone video taped this whole scene it probably could have made Funniest home videos. We can laugh now, but it was not funny in the circumstance!!
You might ask… “Was there a way to unlock the door from the inside?” I tried, I even had a Bobby pin but it did not work.
Let’s just say I will be placing a safety knob to cover the lock, so this never happens again!! The house was pretty much together except for some flowers knocked over and my wedding album flung across the room. This was pretty good for Quinn because he can do some damage. I don’t even want to think about all the things he could have done while he locked his Mother in the bathroom….
My innocent two year old…
